Because Refinery29 Australia and Money have a shared mission: to empower you when it comes to your finances. And the best way to get started is to talk about it. Today, money isn’t equitable. Women still get paid less than men (on average, Australian women <a href="https://www.wgea.gov.au/publications/australias-gender-pay-gap-statistics" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">earn $261 less a week</a> - and studies show <a href="https://theconversation.com/theres-a-gay-wage-gap-and-its-linked-to-discrimination-159956" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">there is a gap for queer, gender-nonconforming and trans folk too</a> when compared with cis men).&nbsp; <a href="https://www.financialcapability.gov.au/files/financial-literacy-in-australia-insights-from-hilda-data.pdf" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Research </a>shows that men are more likely to grow up having open conversations about their money, meaning they get a leg-up on financial literacy and how to make informed spending decisions.&nbsp;

For anyone that’s already hooked, you’ll know that each diary is so much more than a record of expenses: it reflects the full range of human experience (and emotion) - from what it’s like to be a working <a href="https://www.refinery29.com/en-gb/money-diary-london-drag-queen-part-two" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">drag queen</a> in London to <a href="https://www.refinery29.com/en-us/baker-minneapolis-mn-income-money-diary" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">a baker from Minneapolis</a> who sends anarchist Christmas cards and steals from her co-op. But there are also much less dramatic diarists who are equally engaging, like this attorney from Boston <a href="https://www.refinery29.com/en-us/attorney-boston-ma-salary-money-diary" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">who donated her whole COVID stimulus check</a> (but swears she is not normally this “virtuous”). Bringing the series to Australia means that we will soon get a deeper understanding of what money looks like in the context of our lives. Reading the experience of others as they interact with their money will help to empower us on our own journey.&nbsp;
